This series contains subject files and correspondence. Subject files are composed of memos, notes, and correspondence relating to general information on the First Lady and members of her family as well as memorials to President Kennedy, and small projects and organizations Mrs. Kennedy was involved or expressed an interest in. The subject file section also contains the Tuckerman White House files that she kept in her role as White House Social Secretary, which include materials relating to topics such as White House redecoration and the Fine Arts Committee, requests of the Social Office, state gifts, and state dinners such as the Nobel Prize dinner including guest book signed by invitees such as Pearl Buck, Robert Frost, and Robert Oppenheimer. Of note are extensive handwritten notes from Mrs. Kennedy to Chief Usher J.B. West regarding the upkeep and running of the White House.
The subject file section also contains a small portion of condolence mail on the assassination of President Kennedy received by First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy and personally handled by Nancy Tuckerman, which includes general mail which contains requests from the public, gift acknowledgments, tributes and memorial projects. Other condolence mail includes anniversary remembrances, flower card enclosures, and VIP mail from government officials and heads of state. Of note are files relating to the volunteers who helped answer the large amount of condolence mail received after the assassination of President Kennedy.
The correspondence section of this series consists personal correspondence of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and is currently closed per deed of gift.
